The three young people's company, Oscillum, has developed biodegradable smart labels that change colour based on the activity of bacteria responsible for the decomposition of food, thus warning that it is no longer fit for consumption.

In this way, consumers can make choices such as not discarding a product that is still fresh, despite its appearance, reducing the food waste, as well as avoid people to eat food that is not in proper conditions to be consumed.

The smart labels created by Oscillum can be used for packaged and unpackaged products, such as meat, fish, fruit and vegetables.

“Launching a new product meant that neither industry nor consumers knew what it was or how it worked. We had to put a lot of effort into telling our story and demonstrating the usefulness and advantages of our technology,” said one of the inventors, Pablo Sosa, quoted by EFE.
