Throughout the autumn, the length of the days decreases as solar intensity (insolation) also decreases. That is, the sun's rays hit with a lower degree of inclination as the season progresses.
This leads to a gradual drop in temperatures as autumn progresses in the middle latitudes. In this season, the thermal amplitudes in inland areas are usually notable and the average temperature is usually 15.9ºC throughout Spain, according to Eltiempo.es.
In addition, in general, it usually rains more than in summer, with an average rainfall of 204 mm. These precipitations, together with the decrease in daily sunlight hours, usually favour an increase in environmental humidity.
But what will this autumn 2024 be like in Spain?
Seasonal forecasts must be taken with caution, since the uncertainty is greater and more so in a transition season such as autumn, marked by greater atmospheric activity. Trends show that this autumn 2024 could be warmer than normal in most of the peninsula and both archipelagos.
With less marked anomalies, but with a forecast that it could be slightly warmer than normal, there would be Galicia and the rest of the north of the peninsula, as well as the west of Castilla y León, Extremadura and Andalusia.
As for precipitation, trends show that autumn 2024 could be slightly drier than normal in Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria, western Castilla y León, southern Badajoz and western Andalusia, as well as the western Canary Islands.
In the rest of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, rainfall could be within what is usual for the dates as a whole. On the other hand, on the islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, it could be a drier season than usual.
