The 22.3 million tourists in July and August thus surpasses the previous record of 21.8 million, set in 2024.

Spain received 11 million visitors in July (1.6% more than in 2024) and nearly 11.3 million in August (2.95% more), according to statistics from the INE.

In July, tourist spending in Spain reached €16.452 billion, and in August it totaled €16.390 billion (6.7% more than in 2024).

Year-to-date (between January and the end of August), 77.77 million foreign tourists visited Spain and spent 92.463 billion euros (up 7.1%).

The main countries of origin for tourists continued to be the United Kingdom (13.2 million between January and August, 4.3% more than in 2024); France (9.1 million, up 0.1%), and Germany (8.2 million, up 2%).

The largest increases were recorded in visitors from Portugal (2.4 million, up 16.2%) and Ireland (2.1 million, up 10.5%).

Spain is the second-largest tourist destination in the world, after France, and several cities in the country have been the scene of protests against mass tourism over the past year and a half, primarily because of the difficulties it creates in accessing housing for local populations.
