Taxi drivers from all over Spain, some 100,000, are therefore supporting the demand for an early retirement for professional drivers due to the dangers of their profession.
"We demand that reducing coefficients be applied to us to access an early retirement, due to the hardship of our profession, together with our fellow transport workers, as it is clear to everyone that we have an accumulation of illnesses derived from our work that are not recognised. Now is the time to tackle this serious problem", says Antaxi in a statement, which represents 95% of taxis in Spain.
In addition to taxi drivers, CCOO and UGT have ensured that the number of truck drivers and bus drivers also concerns self-employed people who work in the sector.
The unions explain that the delay in retirement due to the danger of the profession would also apply to the self-employed, which is why they could also join, even without being salaried, it would be a temporary cessation of their activity.
In Spain there are around 250,000 salaried truck drivers, although the unions hope that the self-employed will join the call, so the figure could reach 500,000 workers. It also affects bus drivers, whose only official figure is 98,000 workers, even including all employment in the sector.
