The main source markets in the first nine months of the year were the United Kingdom, with more than 14.7 million tourists (+7.4%); France, with almost 10.3 million (+10.5%), and Germany, with almost 9.4 million (+8%).

In the year to date, Portugal has 2.4 million tourists (+6.4%), while the monthly analysis shows an increase of 7.6%, corresponding to just over 303 thousand Portuguese visiting Spanish territory in the new month 2024.

The autonomous communities that received the most tourists during this nine-month period were Catalonia with 15.8 million (+10%), followed by the Balearic Islands with 13.3 million (+5.9%) and the Canary Islands with 11 million (+ 10%).

It is worth remembering that Spain received just over 85 million international tourists in 2023, a new historic number.

In terms of overnight stays, Spain records more than 107 million in these first nine months of 2024, an increase of 10% compared to the same months in 2023.

In September this year, Spain received 9.6 million tourists, an increase of 9.1% compared to the same month in 2023, while overnight stays increased by 6.6% to 13.2 million.

In this monthly analysis, the UK market is the only one to surpass the 2 million mark, followed by Germany and France above one million (1.3 million and 1.1 million, respectively.

With regard to tourist spending, Egatur reveals that, up to September, international visitors reached 99,086 million euros, with the United Kingdom being the country with the highest accumulated expenditure, 18.4% of the total. Germany (12.1%) and France (9%) followed.

The autonomous regions that benefited most from the expenses made by these travelers were Catalonia, with 19.1% of the total, the Balearic Islands, with 17.5%, and the Canary Islands, with 16.7%.
