According to data from the National Statistics Institute (INE) of Spain, the country received, until November 2024, 88.5 million visitors who generated 118 billion euros in revenue for the Spanish economy, thus surpassing the results achieved throughout the year 2023, a year in which the sector reached 85 million tourists and R$108 billion in revenue.
These values represent an increase of 10.7% in relation to the numbers achieved in the accumulated period (January – November) of 2023, while in terms of revenue the evolution is 16.7% in relation to the same period under analysis.
In November alone, data released by the Spanish INE show that the country received 5.6 million international tourists, corresponding to an increase of 10.3% compared to the 11th month of 2023, and in revenues, these totalled 7,709 million euros , that is, a growth of 16% compared to November 2023.
In terms of source markets, the highlight goes to the United Kingdom, which, in November, increased by 5.5% compared to the same month in 2023, totaling more than one million tourists. France appears in second place, with more than 750 thousand tourists (+17.4%), followed by Germany with 650 thousand tourists (+4.4%).
In the monthly analysis, highlights were the increases in markets such as Italy (+22%, to 369 thousand tourists) and Portugal (+21.4%, to 176 thousand tourists) and the drops in Belgium (-20.8%).
In the year to date (January – November 2024), the United Kingdom also leads the ranking, with 17.5 million tourists (+7.1%), followed by France with 12.2 million (+11.5 %) and Germany with 11.3 million (+8.5%).
By expenditure, UK citizens spent 1,161 million euros in November, an increase of 8.7% compared to the same month in 2023. The second country in terms of spending was Germany, whose nationals spent 957 million euros on your holidays in Spain, an increase of 20.2% compared to November 2023. In third place comes France, with an expenditure of 582 million euros and a year-on-year growth of 22%, which places the country as the market with the highest percentage increase in spending this month among the main countries.
The Canary Islands were the main destination for tourists in November, with 25.6% of the total. Catalonia (22.2%) and Andalusia (13.7%) followed. The Canary Islands received 8.6% more tourists than in November 2023, totaling 1.4 million tourists in the month. The number of tourists visiting Catalonia increased by 9.7%, totaling 1.3 million tourists, and an additional 8.7% of tourists traveled to Andalusia, making a total of more than 777 thousand tourists.
In the first 11 months of 2024, the leadership belongs to Catalonia, with 18.7 million tourists (´9.9%), followed by the Balearic Islands, with 15.1 million (+6.1%) and the Canary Islands , with 13.8 million (+9.6%).
