However this is fake news.

There have been no new changes or restrictions in obtaining and renewing driving licenses. The DGT explains to VerificaRTVE that "there have been no recent legislative changes" and that the restrictions linked to diseases are listed in the Drivers' Regulations.

A message shared more than 1,900 times on X since September 9 says: "According to the DGT, from 2025 you will not be able to obtain or renew your driving license if you suffer from any of these 35 diseases." The post includes an image where we read "What diseases are included in the DGT list?" The snapshot lists pathologies such as celiac disease, diabetes, asthma, hyperthyroidism or anxiety, among others. Another publication shared more than 1,500 times spreads the same photograph with the message "it is complicated to renew the driving license in Spain."

However is false that the DGT has published a new list with 35 diseases that will prevent obtaining or renewing the driving license from 2025.

The General Directorate of Traffic explains to VerificaRTVE that the diseases or physical conditions that may affect the renewal of the license "are listed in the Drivers Regulations." This body clarifies that "this legislation is from 1997" and that "there has been no recent legislative change, nor is it planned that anything will be modified in this regard." From the National Confederation of Driving Schools (CNAE) they also explain to VerificaRTVE that "all the diseases that make it impossible, or that limit driving are included in the Drivers Regulations." The National Association of Driving Schools (ANAES) has expressed the same opinion: "[The DGT] has not published any list of diseases that prevent driving and that affect drivers in a generic way."

At VerificaRTVE we have carried out searches by keywords in social media profiles and on the official DGT website and there is no record of this alleged list with 35 diseases. We also found no references to new restrictions for the renewal of the license in the event of suffering from these pathologies.

This is not the first time that false content related to the DGT has circulated on social networks. VerificaRTVE has already warned of falsehoods about the driving license. This is the case of a fraudulent TikTok profile that offered Internet users the opportunity to obtain the license without having to do practice or exams.

The General Directorate of Traffic is also a recurring target of identity theft through fraudulent SMS and emails. At VerificaRTVE we already denied a fraudulent mobile message that shared a link to pay a fine within 24 hours and this other fraud that consisted of the distribution of an email regarding a false traffic fine pending payment.
