On May 7, the Generalitat of Catalonia eased restrictions and withdrew the worst case scenario contemplated by the Special Drought Plan, allowing the Government to reduce the measures in place to date.
In Sabadell, the focus of the news about the drought has been on the lake in the Parc Catalunya. Its emptying, a decision made because the drought decree prevented it, sparked citizen dispute in recent weeks due to the lack of attention to the resident fauna, mainly the ducks that, suddenly, found themselves without their aquatic habitat.
The situation regarding the ducks was reported widely on social media, however, municipal sources insist that at the beginning of the month, about fifteen ducks were moved to a shelter.
"The decree is not yet published, therefore, it is not yet in force. It is expected to be published on Monday and, from then on, we can begin to fill the lake," detailed the city's mayor, Marta Farrés.
The mayor has also explained that, as long as the lake is not completely full, repairs will be made to patch existing leaks: "Therefore, we will already have water in the southern part and we will take advantage of these three or four weeks to repair it. Once this repair is completed, we will also proceed to fill the rest of the lake."
