The municipal buses will be free on September 2, and also on the 9th and 10th, coinciding with the start of the school year.
The deputy mayor of Madrid and spokesperson for the municipal government, Inma Sanz, highlighted that on the 2nd "many Madrid residents" return to their jobs, and on the 9th and 10th "schools start en masse".
The City Council activates the free use of the EMT buses -except for the Express Airport line- at times of the year when a substantial increase in traffic is expected, such as the return to activity after the summer period.
When buses are free, passengers must validate their transport ticket, and if they do not have one, the driver will provide them with a single ticket free of charge.
