The Costa del Sol Tourist Board has pointed out that the reopening of the easyJet base in Malaga is part of the airline’s expansion in the city, which this summer is expanding its range of destinations with five new routes: Leeds Bradford, Newcastle, Marrakech, Rabat and Zurich, bringing the total number of destinations from Malaga to 23. This expansion of the route network underlines easyJet’s commitment to the province, which also favours the diversification of tourism in Malaga, a key aspect of the Costa del Sol Tourism strategy.
As part of the debate, González outlined the main initiatives that Turismo Costa del Sol has developed to diversify the province’s tourism offer and reduce seasonality. Among them, he highlighted the “commitment” to inland tourism, active and nature tourism, the gastronomic segment and the promotion of cultural and sporting events.
In relation to “the impact” of the growth of air routes in the province, González explained that the Diputación de Málaga “has worked on improving infrastructure and tourist services to ensure balanced and sustainable growth”.
Initiatives such as the Huella Zero programme, which has promoted the reduction of the carbon footprint of tourism, and the strengthening of rural tourism as an economic engine of the inland regions, have been some of the pillars on which this strategy has been based.
With this new stage, Costa del Sol Tourism has reaffirmed “its commitment to the consolidation of a diversified and sustainable tourism model, committed to innovation and cooperation with the aviation sector as key to the future of the destination”.
