This is the largest share of foreigners in the purchase of houses in the country since records have been recorded (the series starts in 2007).
The United Kingdom continues to be the country that leads the purchase of homes by foreigners in Spain, representing 8.4% of total transactions in the first six months of 2024. Soon after is Morocco (7.9%), followed by Germany ( 6.8%), show the same data analyzed by idealista/news.
What also draws attention is that eight foreign nationalities reached a record number of home purchases in Spain in the first half of 2024: Morocco, Italy, Poland, Ukraine, USA, Ireland, Colombia and Portugal.
In addition to the fact that there are nationalities that have broken records for purchasing homes in Spain, it is also clear that there are new highs in the average prices paid for housing. Houses cost, on average, 2,249 euros/m2 for foreigners who purchased them in the first half of this year, which is the maximum value in the Spanish notary database.
Those who spent the most money to buy a house in Spain were the Swedes (3,330 euros/m2), followed by the North Americans (3,247 euros/m2) and Germans (3,114 euros/m2), the data reveals.
The Portuguese bought houses in the neighboring country for an average price of 1,839 euros/m2, a price lower than the average recorded for the universe of foreigners.
On the other hand, those who paid the least per m2 of a house in Spain were the Moroccans (738 euros), Romanians (1,158 euros) and Bulgarians (1,281 euros).
