The incident occurred last month ataround 10:30 pm when the victim, accompanied by her younger children, felt unwell after being bitten by the hamster she had as a pet. She decided to go to the Carinyena health center, in Villarreal, to receive medical attention. However, just before reaching the entrance to the center, he suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest. The SAMU services that arrived there attempted advanced resuscitation manoeuvers, but were unable to save her life.
Although the exact cause of death is pending the results of the autopsy, the main hypothesis points to an anaphylactic shock, an extreme allergic reaction that can be fatal if not treated quickly. Anaphylactic shock occurs when the immune system responds exaggeratedly to an allergen, causing symptoms such as difficulty breathing, swelling in the throat, tides and, in severe cases, cardiorespiratory arrest.
The victim's sister explained, the woman suffered from asthma and anxiety, factors that could make the situation complicated. Experts highlight that, even if it is not common, a hamster bite could trigger a serious allergic reaction if the person is sensitive to the proteins present in the animal's saliva. In this case, the woman may not have been aware of her allergy until the proteins entered her bloodstream directly through her bite.
