After six consecutive quarters of growth at quarterly rates of 0.7% or higher, the Spanish economy grew by 0.6% between January and March, according to the INE, which had already given this same figure in its preliminary report published at the end of April, according to ElPaís.
In year-on-year terms, GDP growth stood at a robust 2.8%. Of this increase, 3.2 points were contributed by domestic demand, while external demand subtracted 0.4 points. In the quarter, domestic demand accounted for 0.5 points and external demand for 0.1 points.
In Spain, unlike in Germany, there has been no noticeable advance in exports of goods in an attempt to avoid tariffs. However, exports of business services continue to surprise, rising by a very strong 9% in the quarter. In contrast, tourism fell by nearly 4% in the first three months of the year, although it should be noted that in the previous quarter it had shot up by 13% and this is probably due to a mere quarterly correction.
