According to the Continuous Population Statistics released by the National Statistics Institute (INE), with data as of April 1, 2024, in the previous 12 months Spain grew by 459,615 inhabitants (0.95%), however, that figure is the balance between an increase of 529,464 people born in other countries (6.31% more) and a decrease of 69,849 people born in Spain (0.18% less).

Only seven Mediterranean provinces depart from this trend, and with very small numbers according to EFE: Almería and Málaga in Andalusia, Murcia, Alicante and Castellón in the Valencian Community and Tarragona and Girona in Catalonia; the three island provinces: Balearic Islands, Las Palmas and Santa Cruz de Tenerife; and three from the centre of the peninsula: Guadalajara and Toledo in Castilla-La Mancha and Madrid; in addition to the autonomous city of Melilla.

Where the population born in Spain has increased the most in the last 12 months has been in Almería (0.40%), the Balearic Islands (0.38%) and Madrid (0.27%), while Girona, Toledo, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Tarragona, Las Palmas and Melilla have barely registered a few hundredths of an increase.
