“Considered one of the best tennis players in history, with an unquestionable sporting record, she has won 73 individual titles, including 23 Grand Slams and four Olympic gold medals,” the jury highlighted in the award minutes, released by the Princess of Asturias Foundation.

The jury added that, “in addition to her extraordinary sporting career,” Serena Williams “has always been a staunch defender of gender equality and equal opportunities between men and women in sport and, in general, in society.”

The Princess of Asturias Awards, presented by the foundation of the same name, will celebrate their 45th edition in 2025 and annually recognise the ‘scientific, technical, cultural, social and humanitarian work’ carried out by individuals or institutions at an international level.

The 2025 Princess of Asturias Award for Sports was the fifth announced by the foundation this year.
