Winter time will begin, as every year, on the last Sunday of October, so that is the time when the clock will have to be set back by one hour during the early hours of Saturday, October 26 to Sunday, October 27, 2024.

This winter time change takes place at 03:00 (official peninsular time), when the clock must be set back to 02:00. In the case of the Canary Islands, which have a time difference, it will be at 02:00 when they will set the clock back to 01:00.

The time change in Spain, as in other European countries, is constantly being debated, as there are many advocates of maintaining the same winter time throughout the year. In fact, both the European Parliament and the Commission have spoken out in favour of eliminating the time change in the future.

However, as reported by the National Geographic Institute (IGN), there is still no definitive decision on the matter and, therefore, the traditional time change on the last Sunday in October will be maintained in 2024, with the same argument of saving energy and using less electricity in the public sphere.

Both the winter and summer time changes are reflected in Directive 2000/84/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council, of 19 January 2001, which establishes that the summer time period will end in all Member States at 1 a.m., universal time, on the last Sunday in October.
