On 29 April, the RFEF’s single disciplinary judge handed down a six-match sentence to Rüdiger and rejected Real Madrid’s argument that the player’s repentance was a mitigating factor.

Real Madrid subsequently lodged a new appeal with the Appeals Committee, asking for the minimum sentence of a four-game suspension, with the RFEF rejecting all the arguments put forward by the “merengue” club’s defence.
