A van with tinted windows transported Sánchez and his family from the airport to La Mareta, escorted by security cars, according to EFE.

Government sources did not want to specify either the arrival or how many days Sánchez will remain on the island that has become one of the usual places where he spends a few days of rest since he became head of the Government.

La Mareta, located in the municipality of Teguise, was built by King Hussein of Jordan at the end of the 1970s and a decade later he gave the residence to King Juan Carlos who in turn gave it to National Heritage.

Various Spanish Prime Ministers have stayed there as well as international leaders such as German Chancellors Helmut Kohl and Gerhard Schröder.
