The data is from a survey carried out by Fundament, which also shows that 93.68% say that tourism has made their leisure expenses more expensive.

Another relevant piece of information that emerges from the survey is that “97.67% of those surveyed consider that Mallorca's economy would be more resilient with a greater diversity of industries, a consensus that transcends even those who work in the tourism sector.”

79.34% of respondents do not believe that the management of tourism during 2024 has improved coexistence in Mallorca. Thus, more than half of the respondents (51.6 %) declared having participated in some demonstration or activity related to tourism during the year. Furthermore, 71.32% of respondents believe that both the government and tourism businesses should take joint responsibility for the side effects of tourism in Mallorca.

“The 2024 edition of our survey marks a turning point in the relationship between Mallorcan society and tourism,” says Frank Hoeft, president of Fundament, quoted by Ultima Hora. “The data show that social unrest not only persists but has intensified significantly, manifesting itself both in the perceptions collected and in the active mobilisation of the population.”
