The initiative, proposed by ERC, foresees the creation of a fund to give back to the neighbourhoods most harmed by tourist saturation, with a part of the income obtained.
The Vice Mayor of the Economy of Barcelona, Jordi Valls, has supported the proposal even though he has underlined that the current rate, which this year raised four euros, «finances substantial aspects of the city, such as public transport, security, public space and the School Climate Plan».
Valls has indicated that the proposal will be discussed in the debate on fiscal ordinances in October, with the aim of “commencing in April 2026”.
