The protest action, which was uneventful, was organised by collectives and platforms demanding a reduction in mass tourism in Barcelona.

As well as using water bottles, the activists placed a protest banner on the windows of the tourist bus and blocked its passage.

According to the latest figures from the Barcelona Tourism Observatory, in 2024 the average tourist spent 1,175 euros on a trip and stay in the Catalan capital, an increase of 7.3 per cent on the previous year.

Last year, the three places most visited by tourists in Barcelona were the Ramblas, Plaza de Catalunya and the Sagrada Familia basilica.

In the case of this monument designed by Antonio Gaudí, an action plan was launched in 2024 until 2027 to manage and plan entry flows to the basilica, since it is estimated that 18 to 22 million people visit it every year, according to official figures.
