76% of all jobs created in Spain, between 2019 and 2024, have been filled by immigrants, who also correspond to sectors where companies have had greater difficulty in finding the labour they were looking for.
The Bank of Spain, quoted by La Rázon, warns in its annual report that the percentage of companies declaring that “the lack of labour limits their activity” has increased, rising from 10% in 2021 to 43% in 2024. A shortage of workers is particularly significant in hospitality and construction, where 64% and 56% of companies report being affected.
In specific sub-sectors, which include healthcare and pharmacy companies, 70% say they are having difficulty filling their vacancies with qualified professionals. This figure rises to 80% in energy and utilities, 78% in technology, 77% in consumer goods and services and 69% in the finance and real estate sectors.
