The commission will be leaded by the Minister for Sport, Pilar Alegria, and will have a representative from the Spanish Sports Council as vice-president. The Spanish Football Federation and other organisations will be involved but will not be able to vote on the decisions to be made. Pilar Alegria says that the event is a “national project” and the government will provide “institutional support”, ensuring “the best infrastructure and services.”
The Spanish government plans to invest 540 million euros in the renovation of 11 stadiums in nine cities. Maria Tato, who represents the Spanish Football Federation, says that 60 per cent of the stadiums are ready and that part of the investment will be spent on training fields and accommodation buildings.
The stadiums to be renovated are located in: Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Malaga, Bilbao, San Sebastián, A Coruña, Las Palmas and Zaragoza.
