Three other cities in the northern half of the peninsula are among the ten cities with the highest cost of living: Bilbao (+4.84% above the average), Gerona (+2.39%) and Vitoria (+1.72%).
On the other hand, Zamora is the cheapest city, located 7.5% below the average, together with Ciudad Real (-6.61%) and Lugo (-6.34%).
Kelisto has stressed that a high cost of living does not always correspond to higher incomes: Malaga, for example, is the fifth most expensive city in the country, but occupies position 46 in relation to average incomes.
The spokesperson for Kelisto.es, Estefanía González, has highlighted from the report that the difference between the most expensive and cheapest cities with respect to average prices is significantly reduced.
"Clichés such as 'life in the North is more expensive than in the South' or 'living in small provincial capitals is cheaper' are still true on many occasions. The three most expensive cities in the country, for example, are capitals in the northern half of the peninsula. Among the 10 cheapest, six of them are also among the 10 capitals with the least population in the country," explained González.
