In March, Spain's dams accumulated the volume of water needed for more than a year's consumption in three weeks. According to SIC Notícias, there has been a 22.7 per cent increase in water reserves since 4 March. A total of 39,895 cubic metres.

‘In one month, we've practically ended a long-term drought,’ Rubén del Campo, spokesman for the Spanish meteorological agency Aemet, told El País.

Spain's dams have now reached 71.2 per cent of their capacity at a time of year when, on average, dams only reach 60.1 per cent of their capacity.

According to El País, the Tagus basin is now at 81.8 per cent capacity and the Guadiana at 65.3 per cent, substantially higher than usual.
