Three of these Málaga towns at high risk of depopulation are in the Serranía de Ronda mountain range: Pujerra, Jubrique, and Genalguacil. Another is in the Axarquía region, in this case, Alfarnate. The fifth is Cañete la Real, located in the Guadalteba region.

The data comes from technicians from the Ministry of Local Government, the Institute of Cartography of Andalusia, the Centre for Andalusian Studies, and Professor Eugenio Cejudo of the University of Granada, prepared a comprehensive diagnosis of the population stand point in Andalusia as well as a Strategy to Combat the Demographic Challenge, which will be accessible for public consultation until 20 April, says Malagahoy.

Of these five municipalities in Málaga at high risk of depopulation, the smallest is Pujerra, with 279 residents. It is followed by Genalguacil, with 404 inhabitants, and Jubrique, with 586. The largest, both in terms of land area and population, is Cañete la Real, where, according to data from the Institute of Statistics and Cartography, 1,590 people lived in 2024.
