In total, there were, last year, 641,919 transactions closed, 10 per cent more than the previous year. The European Central Bank justifies the results with the cheapening of mortgages and the overheating of the rental market, which is causing many tenants to seek refuge in property.
In annual terms, the number of free-market homes sold increased by 10.3 per cent and the number of subsidised homes sold increased by 6.7 per cent. Meanwhile, the number of transactions involving new homes increased by 23.4 per cent and the number of transactions involving used homes increased by 6.9 per cent.
The region with the greatest increase in sales in 2024 was Galicia, registering an increase of 22,3 per cent. On the other hand, Balearic Islands saw a decrease in housing sector transactions, lowering 3,8 percent.
