Almost €47 billion (61.4% of total investment in environmental protection) was spent by companies on the acquisition of technologies and equipment to reduce the environmental pressures of their production processes.

Most of the investments were directed towards wastewater and waste management services: 38.2% and 24.8% of total environmental protection investments, respectively.

Radiation protection, research and development and other environmental protection activities accounted for 14.0% of investment, while air and climate protection accounted for 11.2%.

Soil and groundwater protection accounted for 5.6% of environmental protection investments in Member States, biodiversity and landscape protection for 5.2%, and noise reduction for the remaining 1.0%.
