The countdown is on for the start of the plan to relaunch the Málaga Nostrum shopping centre in the capital with the construction of a supermarket from the American chain Costco, in the place currently occupied by the cinemas, which will be moved to what was the Conforama furniture store.
In a month, the renovation work on this building could begin according to ABC, in which 14 cinemas will be fitted out on the first floor, and commercial premises on the ground floor, according to the project by architect Salvador Moreno Peralta.
However, this adaptation, which has a duration of one year, is only the preliminary step to the most important intervention: the construction of a Costco supermarket in the space that will be left by the demolition of the current cinemas, a demolition that would take about six months. There is therefore at least a year and a half left before the construction of the Costco store can begin, a project by the Basque architect Antxon Taberna to which SUR has had access.
One of the most relevant characteristics of the building is the large number of parking spaces that it will have, which gives the idea that it will attract a large number of customers motivated by the opportunities and low prices of a supermarket that works as a kind of club in which members pay an annual fee of about 36 euros per year for individuals and 30 euros for companies and self-employed workers. Urban planning regulations require for this project a minimum provision of 400 parking spaces that Costco will increase to a total of 640 distributed in the basement and on the ground floor of the future building, mostly dedicated to parking. Of these spaces, 16 will be adapted for the disabled and another 16 will have electric charging points.
On the ground floor there will also be a tyre replacement service and the main entrances to the supermarket. The pedestrian entrance will be on the corner of Jaén and Tarragona streets, and cars will be able to enter the car park via Ávila, Tarragona and Jaén streets. In addition, there will be a fourth entrance for goods vehicles at the south-west end of the building, which will have three bays for transporting goods.
